Mission Candles For Peace

A Child’s Prayer for the 21st Century

From Caritas Australia’s Ozspirit

"May The pins stay in the grenades,

May the guns remain unused

May the bombs stay unexploded

May the wars end"

Candles for Peace is an initiative of the school children to pray for peace in our world, especially after September 11th, 2002. Money from the candles goes to Caritas Australia.

The Missions pages deal with the missions or support for people that are or want to become lay missionaries, at Pallottine missions or missions overseas.

The support of the missions is an important segment of our parish life as it supports our ideals of Christ-bearers alive in faith and Love.

Pallottine Lay Missionaries

The Pallottine Fathers and Brothers at Wandalgu Hostel, Tardun WA, 450 kms north of Perth, are assisted by lay volunteers who fill such roles as house parents for aboriginal students, cooks, school bus driver, sheep farmer and building maintenance person. These positions require maturity, an ability to relate well to Aboriginal people, initiative, generosity and faith.

Nawadih Mission

Noadhi_1

Nature and aims of this group: Nawadih Mission has been a part of our church for more than 27 years. The parish's aim is to provide on-going support to the Nawadih Villagers with medical, educational and staffing assistance. Fund-raising is an important part of continued assistance, other than the monthly donations that take place.

The Nawadih Health Centre conducted a malaria camp last year and so far this year they have had very few malaria cases. They held health day celebrations on 22nd April which included a one-act play on T.B., malaria and gastroenteritis.. Twenty health workers selected by their villages are very active and alert. They attend regular health seminars to teach them preventive measures and how to deal with their poverty, and vaccination programmes have improved since they were trained.

There was a Nawadih weekend earlier in the year with a Jesuit priest, Father Crotty, who has worked in India and preached on the work of the mission and appealed for funds.
