We all want to grow in our faith. Catholicism has a rich heritage that engages mind, heart and soul. There are great resources available and others yet to be developed: speakers, videos, and especially bible study or faith sharing in small groups.
People want to grow at their own pace and in regard to present and pressing issues for them. It's called adult learning. We hope to have the meeting room as one centre of adult faith education that is warm and enviting.
The areas below indicate a sample of many of the things to come...
Every person has a wealth of experience which they bring to every group. They are not a blank page. Formation is self-motivated. A variety of spiritual experiences are offered of which you can take advantage.
One approach at present is to tune into the Archdiocesan Focus on Spiritual Renewal of parish and people, entitled "Contemplate - Launch Out." A brief exposition of Pope John Paul's letter, "Into the New Millenium" is available. It can be complemented by themes suggested for each month which cover the basic tenets of our faith.
Other resources are available for young adults in the various spirituality groups in our parish, as well as scope for service.
A few interested people from St Christopher's are in the process of learning about the Alpha Programme which has proved to be a very successful tool to renew faith. We are seeking people who have a passion for the possible, in order to form a team which will run this programme next year after Easter.
Alpha is a relaxed community-building experience. People gather over a cuppa, see and discuss a challenging video and share in groups. This is its basic structure. The programme is planned for the second term. It has been used by a number of Catholic parishes and has had very good results. A youth Alpha is also available.
