Ecumenical Affairs
The nature and aims of this group:
Our parish has traditionally been involved in Ecumenical Activities through its membership of the Glen Waverley Inter-Church Council (GWICC). The Council meets on the first Thursday of the month, with the aims of fostering co-operation between member churches and organising local events.
Main Events:
- Good Friday Way of the Cross: This procession is held at Glen Waverley Central Reserve with prayer and contemplation at several stations around the oval.
- The Easter Event: This is held every second year, alternating with the MWICC. The Easter Story is presented for school children, who visit Glen Waverley Uniting Church for storytelling and drama presentations.
- Pentecost Sunday Pilgrimage - with MWICC: Members of local churches attend Pentecost Sunday Services at other churches to celebrate the origins of Christianity.
- Carols on the Green - in conjunction with
Syndal Baptist Church: A Christmas pageant of carol singing and drama is held in the grounds of Wesley College, preceded by a picnic tea and children's activities. Free drinks and Christmas cake are provided.
- Australian Church Women: Our parish is a participating member of the Glen Waverley/Syndal Branch of A.C.W., an
ecumenical movement of Prayer for Peace, Justice and Reconciliation. Three services are held each year, hosted by Member Churches, on the World Day of
Prayer, Fellowship Day and Community Day.
We would welcome all interested people to join us in
these ministries.
